What is "Bha"? New shoe size system in india

Introduction:

'Bha' is the new shoe sizing introduced system proposed and specially designed for India. 'Bha' is stands for Bharat which is Hindi name of India. Here is the key points about this new shoe sizing system:

Goal:

 Current shoe sizing system i.e. US/UK, mostly focusing on the length fitting. 'Bha' shoe sizing system will be focused on the length as well as width of the shoes to provide the better fit for Indian feet.

Development: 

According to the survey over 1 lakhs participants, they are using the 3D foot scanning technology to customise their shoes according to their feet.

Benefits: 

• Improved fitting and comfort for the larger percentage of population which is over 85% in India. This will provide comfort to the different feets such as flat feet people and other people who suffering from the current sizing system.
• It will simplify the manufacturing process of the shoes by eliminating the half sizes and reducing the number of shoe sizes from 10 (UK/US) to 8.
•  Wider shoes to better accomodate the average Indian foot shape and size.

Current Status: 

'Bha' shoe sizing proposal is currently under development and awaiting approval by BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards). User trials expected to take place for about a year.

Implementation Target: 

If 'Bha' system get approved, it could replace the existing US/UK shoe sizing systems in India by 2025.
