Light - Fidelity is the technology in which the data can be transferred from one device to another device by using the light signal, the wi-fi technology works on the radio frequency similarly this technology uses the light signal to transmit the data. The speed of light is extremely fast that's why the data transfer speed is also fast. This system can be use of visible light, inferred signals or ultraviolet signals to transmit the signal. The two sections are there which are transmitter and the receiver, the transmitter uses the light source or any one source which are mentioned above to transmit the signal by integrating the data into the light signal.
The receiver section uses the photodiodes to receive the signal which is transmitted from the transmitter, at the receiver the data will be decoded from the light signal. This technology having the more bandwidth than the wi-fi technology which makes it faster, this technology is more useful in the military services, aircraft services, etc. The light emitting diodes, laser light are normally used in the transmitter of the Li-Fi system, the transmitted signal is visible to the user by eyes due to visible spectrum of the signal in case of the LED but infrared signal is not visible to the Han eyes. There is the concept of the Li-Fi cells which forwards the data signal to each other to easy transmission without interruption. But there is a drawback of this system is that it can be interrupted by the walls, this signal cannot pass the wall to reach the receiver end.
In the military applications or the medical profession the devices which are produce the electromagnetic radiation which is harmful or it will create the distortion in the signal at that time the Li-Fi technology is very useful. Li-Fi technology does not create the electromagnetic radiation to interrupt the nearby devices or system. The data carrying capacity of the Li-Fi system is much more than the wi-fi system, because the light spectrum is almost 1000 times larger than the wi-fi spectrum. The Li-Fi system can be cheaper than the wi-fi technology and it will be come into the smartphones to transfer the data from one to another in very easy manner with extremely high speed. This system is also called as the visible light communication.
The term 'Li-Fi' introduced by the Prof.Harald Haas in the year 2011, according to him the data can be transmitted by the every light signals. The Li-Fi system has the protocols like 802.11 which the IEEE standard. The Li-Fi system can be used in the home automation or industrial automation system, it can be implement underwater very easily and Li-Fi can be used in much more applications.
